How Much of God's Word Do We Believe

Believing God's Word-Is it even accurate? Well there has been much debate on whether we should believe and follow the word of God. I often hear the argument that since it was made by man and man isn't perfect then there must be some discrepencies in it, which makes it null and void. I've also heard that there are so many inconsistencies within the Bible, it's not even funny. That in itself makes it a book not to be taken seriously. But there are some things to consider before making any objective opinions about the Bible. Once these things are considered, you can begin to see and understand the word of God in a different light.

Bible - Spirit Book

The Bible is not meant to minister to our flesh. 1 Corinthians 2:14 reads:

"But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."

Not only will our natural flesh not recieve the things that are discerned by our spirit, we'll think they're foolish as well. There will be many verses that don't make sense. It won't piece together in our minds because there is no way our minds can understand it naturally. We get in God's word as a response to developing a relationship with Him. We must confess our sins, believe that His son Jesus died for our sins on the cross and receive His Spirit into our lives and hearts to rely on Him for understanding and strength to live our His will. Jesus says in John 16:7-10,

"7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. 8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more;"

Our understanding of scripture is predicated on us realizing that we cannot grasp the meaning on our own accord. Knowing this first and foremost as a basis to our research and study of the word of God will help us to tear down every fallacy that attempts to disprove it.

Get the Whole Story

Some of us only read a small portion of the Bible and try to apply it to our lives. When we do that, we easily find that it doesn't apply. Or does it? If you desire to understand the word of God, first pray that God shows you what He wills to reveal to you. Second, take the time to do your research to get a full understanding of the scriptures. Find out the authors. Search out who the authors were addressing. Get an understanding of the lifestyle, the laws, the government, and the customs/beliefs of that day. Knowing this will not only give you a great visual, it will also uncover some wonderful truths and amazing revelation within the passage, even if you've read the passage time and time again.

The World, The Word

The world we live in is quiet different from the standards God set out in His word. The world raves sex, the word preaches sex only in the confines of marriage. The world teaches to agree and accept everyone as they are (being tolerant). The word says that homosexuality is wrong and when is based on decision despite the world's opinion of genetics. The world spreads that whatever one believes is one's own business and all roads lead to the same place. The word of God proclaims there is only one path to heaven and that's through confessing our sins, accepting Jesus as our Lord and personal Savior, and adapting our life to His word. We can choose to believe what we want but we must understand that our belief doesn't equate reality. I can believe all I want the sky is green or that snakes don't bite if I befriend them in a certain way. It doesn't mean my belief is right. But there is a standard we can measure our beliefs on. One that is accurate, perfect, and true. The question, who will we believe?

Our Decision

We can go on believing something is okay just to appease ourselves or because we don't feel it's right to live under a set of rules or regulations but having a relationship with God is just the opposite. It's setting us free from the slavery of sin and living a life that pleases God and creates self worth in our lives. Develop a relationship with God. Find your place and the pieces to God's word will spiritually fit perfectly into place right before your eyes.
