How Much Guidance to Find in Restaurant Reviews

Lee VanAmee
There are still some "old school" professional restaurant reviewers that are followed religiously in the newspapers, magazines, internet sites, television, etc. As long as these reviews are tried and tested over time you can feel safe with your favorite reviewers. It is great to know you can depend on someone's integrity and their loyalty to the real consumers out there who rely on honest opinions of what they think of certain restaurants and all that go along with the experiences and meals.

But some of the "newer" and "more improved" reviews and reviewers are sellouts, they have been paid to say what they are saying whether they are truthful or not. You can get a review job on Craigslist and thousands of other "work at home" schemes or freelance sites on the net, if you are good at it you can usually fill in thousands of comment sections and reviews every day. If you do not say what the contractor wants you to say; you do not get paid. There are companies that are set up to do just that; give false opinions and comments by the thousands; whether it be a blog or a review site or even a search engine filler. These types of reviews can also be hidden as individual reviewers and opinions and yet were written by a work at home person, a database filler company or survey fillers that is doing hundreds and sometimes more reviews every day, week, etc.

So when you are dealing with a comment on a site or even on the restaurants search results you need to take everything into consideration before making your final decision. If you see a lot of positive reviews and yet this restaurant is never busy when you go by; trust your intuition and make your plans to check it out before you book some big dinner or venue there. But the same goes if you see some snarky comments on the review and yet all of your family or friends say the restaurant was great then I again would try it out for myself before I would rely totally on the review. Word of mouth is usually best when dealing with local restaurants; word of mouth can make or break a restaurant and even on vacations you can ask the "local crowd" as they will almost always have some strong opinions of the best restaurants in town.
