How much is too much when it comes to the amount of time a person spends online playing games? This can be a very difficult question to answer considering the fact that it will be different for everyone. Still, there are a few tips that can help you decide how much time your family should spend sitting in front of a computer playing games.

The first thing that should be taken into consideration is the person's age. Obviously, the younger a person is, the less time they should spend in front of a computer playing games. Therefore, we will start by discussing how much time children should be allowed on the computer. Young children need to spend time socializing with family members and other kids. This will help them develop their social skills and grow mentally and physically to become healthy, well-adjusted adults. However, there are several great computer games that can help your child grow and learn many different things.

As the parent, it's vital that you monitor your child's use of the computer. It's your job to make sure the games your child plays are suited to their age level and set a time limit on how long they can play. When determining how long they can play computer games take into consideration the other things they need to do throughout the week and their bedtimes. Playing computer games should never interfere with homework, meals, physical playtime or sleep.

When it comes to teenagers, don't stop monitoring. Of course, teens may be given more computer time than young children but that doesn't mean they should be allowed to decide for themselves how long to play. Most likely teens will stay up all night playing computer games and sleep all day during their classes at school. This is not something that you should let happen. Take the time to monitor the games they play and set limits for how long they can use the computer. Don't let them stay up all night or spend all weekend playing games on the computer. If they do, they will miss out on a lot of growing up and it can cause them to become socially awkward.

Now, as the parent, you may think that you can play computer games for as long as you want to. After all, you are the parent. However, that is not always true. Children watch what you do and they learn from their parents. Therefore, it's important to set a good example for them, even when playing games. By setting aside special time for yourself, your children won't feel like they are being slighted in any way.

Another reason that you should have special time set aside for yourself is because, it's just as easy for adults to lose track of time when playing computer games as it is for the children. Some of them can be so alluring and just plain fun that you don't realize you've been playing for hours. The next thing you know, its way past your bedtime and getting up for work could be a problem. It's also easy to become so involved with many games that you don't socialize the way you use to or the way you should. It could even begin interfering with quality time that should be spent with the rest of your family. It's for these reasons that everyone should be aware of the amount of time they spend playing computer games even if they don't have children.

So how much is too much gaming time? This ultimately depends on the individual person and their needs. You have to decide how long you should spend playing. Still, if you notice that you're staying up later at night or spending all your free time playing games, it might be time to cut back a little. This is also true when these games interfere with other aspects of your life. Playing computer games is fun and entertaining as long as you don't become obsessed with it. Limit your gaming time to something that suits your individual lifestyle but that doesn't interfere with it.
