How Much is Too Much to Spend on an Engagment Ring?

Celebrities and There Million Dollar Bling

Britt Emerson
I admit I am not exactly a huge media fan; I really have no desire for the most part to see what goes on in the lives of every celebrity and the scathing details of their family members. I will also admit though that I will occasionally, once in a blue moon, click on a story about someone famous that piques my interest, nothing more than just the desire to read some nonsense.

Recently it happened to be an article about celebrities and there million dollar engagement rings.

No my friends that is not a typo, I did put in million and while this should not come as a shock anymore with the whacked out things that celebrities spend money on as you have probably seen yourself, it did give me the feeling that I was going to lose my lunch.

Call me crazy but there is something physically disturbing about spending that kind of bling on a ring. Wrapping my mind around it is not possible in any scenario. It just doesn't do anything for me but make me want to go on a hiatus from any form of media so that I enjoy my food without any digestion problems.

That said if I am completely honest with myself and had mass amounts of loot in my bank account I too would probably spend it on some stupid purchases that only I would enjoy, just for the heck of it. I am not against wealth, in fact I believe in it, especially if you have worked your tail off for it. More power to you.

But really isn't there some line, be it flexible, where that kind of spending is just ridiculous and disgusting. Knowing what we know about what goes on outside of our country in third world countries with its children lacking food and clean water, or even in our own country and our own kids. Why do we see this kind of spending as justifiable, glamorous even? Worthy of talking it up and making it look wonderful.

It is sad to me, angering even. Not because people have money but because of the flagrantly stupid ways it's spent.

I know that this type of news is not exactly a phenomenon. It is every day in many ways and while it will never go away I can only hope that once in a while someone, somewhere will have a small celebrity style reality check, buy a $500,000.00 dollar ring (gasp) and send the rest to a local food bank where thousands of people are having to pawn their $500.00 dollar wedding rings to pay for food for their kids this month.
