How Music Artists and Record Companies Can Keep Their Record Sales Up

SDR2010
With the popularity of the internet all over the world and the rise of programs like Napster there has been a lot of talk about how downloading music will eventually main the music industry. This is a debate, which has now been going for more than six years, and it turns out that downloading music has not ruined the music industry at all.

There have been a lot of complaints from artists that say it is harder for them to sell enough records to reach a platinum status. I believe that this may be because of the fact that the quality of music is down and the customers are being offered music, which they do not feel the need to own. They are also smarter about saving their money because of the fact that the economy is so bad while then results in low record sales. However, there are several things which recording artists and record companies can do to make sure that they are able to sell records:

One of the best selling albums in 2007 was "Graduation" by Kanye West because of the fact that he made sure that the record, which he put out, offered a lot of replay value. If you want to make customers buy your record then make sure they are getting some replay from the CD instead of a one hit wonder CD.

You can reduce the amount of sales that you lose to downloaded music by embracing this medium and offering a downloadable version of your album, which can be purchased directly from your site. There are many fans that would like to buy the CD from you but need to put files on their MP3 player because they no longer own a CD player. If you provide the fans with a way to download the music for their player through your site then you will profit and they will gladly buy the record.

You should offer fans an incentive to buy the CD version, which may include a chance to win a signed photo of the artists, concert tickets or spend the day with the artist. You can produce limited edition CDs and the winner will get the prize based on buying the winning CD. You could also offer an option where you ask fans to buy the downloads before the album is released and promise to ship them the CD once it is released.
