Your immediate reaction is to turn up the volume, and maybe start singing along. Little did you know that this song playing is creating a psychological reaction in your brain, causing you to get an energy boost, and receive those endorphins that put you in a happier state of mind.

It is the bodies natural reaction to the sound waves, that can give a person energy when they are lacking, or put them in a happy mood by listening to a song with a deemed happy rhythm to it. Likewise if you have a sufficient amount of energy and you listen to slow moving, more depressing songs, you will find that energy being zapped as you keep listening to the downing rhythm. There is even a genre denoted to this time long feeling, the blues. The blues were created many years ago, before studies exist to back up the effects of music, but even back then people understood how music effected them, and how some types of music was good to listen to when you were in a certain mood.

So if you are feeling a lack of energy through the middle of the day, take a break and pop in those iPod headphones, and put on a fast paced energetic song, more than likely you will feel that surge of energy the singer and the band are conveying, and you will be in a faster thinking, more energetic state of mind. The only thing that could hinder the effects of music on a person's mood is if that person is completely unacceptable to a song, in order to change your mood, you have to be willing. It's like with hypnosis, you have to believe in it, and accept it in order to feel the full effects of the phenomenon.
