Musical Picture Wedding Cake Topper
Supplies:
Small picture of the bride and groom
Clear laminating sheet
Scissors
Musical button that plays the Wedding March
Dried or silk florals
Floral foam
Silk florals
6 inch wooden disc
1/2 yard of gathered lace
Glue gun and glue sticks
Sharp knife
Directions:
1. Laminate the bride and groom picture by following the directions that came with the laminate sheet. This helps protect the picture and keep it clean. Laminating sheets can be found at any office supply store or chain department store.
2. Glue the gathered lace around the edge of the wooden disc. When I get to the end of the lace, I like to cut it about a 1/4 inch past the beginning piece, then glue this extra 1/4 inch under. I then glue it to the top of the beginning piece of gathered lace. This gives it a finished, professional look.
3. Cut a piece of floral foam so that it is slightly smaller than the wooden circle. Glue this piece to the center of the wooden disc. Make a sharp slit across the center of the foam with a sharp knife. Slide the bridal picture in this slit. If the picture doesn't stand up completely, carefully make the slit a little deeper.
4. Cut flowers so that each one has an approximate two inch stem. If flowers don't have a stem, they can be glued to the foam. Stick the flowers around the foam and picture. Make sure the arrangement is full, colors are evenly distributed, and that the picture isn't covered. This is where the creativity can kick in. I have done this cake topper with seashells instead of florals for a beach wedding, and peacock feathers for a Victorian wedding. Any theme can be done in replacement of flowers on this musical picture wedding cake topper.
5. Glue the musical button to the back of the picture. This gives easy access to the musical button. These buttons play a variety of songs. I usually get the Wedding March button for this musical picture cake topper, but another favorite song can be substituted.
Musical buttons can be found at www.bjcraftsupplies.com for $1.95. The six inch wooden circle needed for the base of this musical picture cake topper can be found at www.craftparts.com for 49 cents.
