How Musicians Can Use MySpace to Gain Fame and Respect

Tips for Musical Fame

MySpace, as most all of you know, is a social networking website used by millions of users to interact with one another. Its user-friendly interface allows you to customize your profile, which includes everything from your favorite music, to your favorite TV. shows, to who you are interested in romantically. While these uses are effective and beneficial for some, others use MySpace for a completely different personal gain: fame.

Musicians are constantly logging into, updating, and watching their statistics on their MySpace. Especially (and these are the ones that are being written about) the musicians who have yet had the impossible luck of communicating with a record label. We all know that is the goal of every (serious) musician who plays, especially those who look to benefit from music and have it be their main job. So, what do you need to do in order to get famous? Well, it certainly helps to be good, but is that all it takes? Certainly not. Self-created fame is by far one of the most important aspects of getting signed by a record label, and it can only be created or discovered one way: hard work and knowledge of modern day technology.

MySpace is used by musicians as essentially an advertisement page for their music, and with the right amount of fans and the proper public display of your talent, you can have thousands of viewers each week go to your MySpace page. And, this is by far one of the most important things to a record label (of course, in addition to innate talent), because if you have existent fans before they sign you, you already have a high probability of making money, and therefore, making the record label money.

So, in order for things to work right, your MySpace page needs to be not only appealing, with proper, alluring graphics, but also needs to have good examples of your music on the Flash player imbedded into your page. If these two things are present, then you are already more than halfway there. Following these two steps, the next and most important step is to find a way to have a fan base. The most common way is to play shows (or commonly known as gigs) at local bars, schools, etc., and show people your style, skill, and finesse on whatever instrument it may be, whether a guitar, bass, or microphone.

Conclusively, if these steps are followed, you will not only have an attractive MySpace page, but you will also be driving fans to your page in large numbers. If you have something for them to either listen to, or perhaps read (news-wise), then they will keep coming as well. Once you have this, and perhaps tens of thousands of views, the next step is to begin calling record labels and bugging them incessantly. Best of luck with your steps to fame.
