How NAET Helped My Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Allergy Elimination Technique May Help Alleviate Some CFS Symptoms

L. Lark
About six and a half years ago I got tired. Very tired. I was feeling utterly exhausted, I couldn't think straight and never felt rested no matter what I did. To this day I feel those same symptoms. I have come to a point where I can manage some of those symptoms and am aware of certain things that may trigger them.

One of the things that helped me feel a little better is a technique called NAET, or Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Technique. Quite a mouthful. When I first got sick, I was seeing a doctor who tried to help me but had run out of options. He recommended that I see a colleague of his to be 'tested' for allergies.

Allergies?

Well, sort of. Ever since I got sick with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, or CFS, my body reacts with extremes. When I get cold, my legs don't feel warm for hours; when I smell perfume, I feel as though I am swimming in a vat of eau de Skunk (no matter how pretty the perfume is); when I get tired, I am bone tired - empty tired - literally exhausted.

So when my doctor mentioned that I may be eating certain foods that my body doesn't like, or may be using health and beauty products that cause my body to react, it made sense. NAET is a technique which helps reset your body. In other words, it tells your body to stop reacting negatively to something. I was a bit skeptical at first, but it seemed worth a try.

Acupuncture?

There are two different methods of NAET. One is using acupressure and the other is using acupuncture. Acupressure stimulates certain pressure points in your body without using needles. Acupuncture uses very small, fine needles to stimulate those same points. Don't worry, it doesn't hurt. In fact, it can be quite relaxing.

How Does it Work?

NAET, or Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Technique uses applied kinesiology, or muscle testing to determine what your body reacts too negatively. It can test for anything from a reaction to conventional allergens like dust mites or specific foods to a reaction to your own body chemicals like hormones.

The basic tenet of applied kinesiology it that muscles will become weak, or temporarily lose their strength if exposed to something your body does not like or 'approve of.' I have tried this technique on friends and family members and have found it to give accurate and consistent results time and time again. You will hold a piece of food or perfume or other substance in your hand. You will extend your other arm. The practitioner will the push against your free arm. You are to resist that push. If the practitioner can push your arm right down, you have some type of allergy or aversion to that food or substance.

Treating the Allergy

Once your practitioner determines some of the things that your body is reacting allergically to, he or she can treat them. In other words, they can help your body to stop reacting in a negative way to these substances. You will be required to hold the substance in your hand while you receive either the acupuncture or acupressure. Stimulating these pressure points tells your body that it is no longer necessary to overreact when this substance is present. The technique is permanent and will eliminate your allergic reaction to that substance.

My Results

There were days that I remember driving to my acupuncturist to receive my NAET treatments when I was so tired it was all I could do to sit upright in the car and grasp the steering wheel. Within a few hours of receiving treatment, I would consistently feel better. It really is quite an amazing theory and technique. My experience with it was quite positive.

Once I determined which foods my body was reacting to, I could avoid them until they had been treated successfully. The applied kinesiology technique discovered that I had a severe allergy to molds and helped me discover that the cottage I was living in was the source.

I have received many, many benefits from NAET. I very much believe that I would not be as functional as I am today if it had not been for these treatments.

A Word of Caution

The only negative feedback that I could give to either of my NAET practitioners is that they tried to do too much with it. Both of these practitioners led me to believe that this technique can cure Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. From my experience, it can not. I would have preferred to be told that the technique can help improve my quality of life, rather than that NAET is a cure for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

I don't believe there is a cure for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome at this point in time. Rather, each individual must try different techniques, doctors, supplements, etc. and find what works for them. I can say that my experience with NAET was quite positive and I believe it helps me live a better life with a little less fatigue and fogginess.

You can get more information about this technique at www.naet.com. The website also gives a link to help you find local practitioners. If you live with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, or know someone who does, I highly recommend trying this technique. Health insurance may cover some of the costs, or your practitioner may be willing to bill you on a sliding scale. Check out if there are practitioners in your area. You might just feel a little better after a few treatments.
