How to Get Nail Polish to Dry Faster

Chemical and At-Home Solutions

Denise McGrail
How many times have you decided at the last minute that the perfect touch to complete your look would be freshly painted nails? You glance at the clock and to your surprise you actually have 5 extra minutes to swipe on that perfect nail polish color. Then what happens? No matter how resolute you are about only using your palms to steer the wheel of your car and not touching anything that will remotely come in contact your nails, you will inevitably wind-up smudging, chipping and distorting your quick manicure.

Luckily, there are some quick solutions that will help you keep your manicure looking fresh. Check out these products for a chemical solution.

O•P•I has a line of quick-drying nail finishing products that will send you out the door with confidence. They have three different formulas available to help your nails dry faster. My favorite is their RapiDry Spray Nail Polish Dryer. According to their website, this nail dryer "gives manicures a smooth, hard, smudge-proof finish in just minutes . . ." and they are not exaggerating. Spray this on your nails and within 45 seconds your nails are set and dry to the touch. I use this particular product dutifully. It costs $9.95 and it has lasted me for about a year.

Where to find: You can go to www.OPI.com for locations on where to buy their products and see the other products they offer in this line. You can also find O•P•I products at various Beauty Brands locations. Go to www.beautybrands.com for store locations.

Maybelline Express Finish® 60 Second Nail Color is another option. This is a nail color that is made to go on quick and dry fast. They offer a wide range of colors and the polish sets in 60 seconds. This product is cheaper than the O•P•I products. It retails for about $3.99. However, you are limited by whatever colors Maybelline has available in the Express Finish line.

Where to find: You can find Maybelline products at drugstore locations nationwide.

If you are looking for more at-home remedies for your nail drying needs, try these simple ideas.

Hair-dryer: Just get out your hair-dryer and dry one hand at a time. Be certain that you have more than a minute to do this. It will take about 5 minutes per hand.

Cold water: You can fill up a large bowl with ice water and stick your hands in it between one and two minutes. This is quicker than bowl drying, but certainly much colder.

With these solutions bubbling, chipping and smudging can become a habit of the past. Take control over your nails, show them whose boss and take advantage of the nail finishing products and techniques highlighted above. Imagine the freedom!
