How Can I Name My IPhone Using ITunes?

Rachel Soden

Your iPhone is a high technology powerhouse with the ability to play music, track your calendar, play games and stream movies. You can take pictures and videos and upload them to your favorite social networking sites. When all that is boring you, you can talk on the phone for a little bit.

Unfortunately, when it comes to the little details the Apple designers were stingy on the extravagance. For instance, when you plug your iPhone into your iTunes software, it comes up as "iPhone." The default name for your iPhone is "iPhone." For the average user with no imagination, this is probably acceptable. For those computer users who have more than one iPhone or those who want to be unique, you can rename your iPhone relatively easily. This helps you differentiate between backups in iTunes.

Steps:

You need to start off by plugging your iPhone into your personal computer with your iPhone USB cord.

Turn on your iTunes software if it doesn't automatically launch. Wait for your iPhone to be recognized by your iTunes software. You will see your iPhone under the "Devices" header in the left navigation pane.

Double click your iPhone in the left column under the "Devices" header.

Highlight the existing name. The default iPhone name is "iPhone."

Type a new name into the field. Click away from the iPhone icon to save your changes.
