How Do Nascar Points Work?

Kayla McClure
The Nascar point system may seem a bit difficult to understand if not a fan of the sport. It is quite simple to learn. If I can learn about the system and actually understand it, then so can you. The point system rewards drivers for various achievements. For example, if a driver achieves the lead in a race, he is awarded with bonus points. Or if a driver wins an actual race, they are able to gain points.

Owners and manufacturers receive points as well. But this point system differs from the point system that the drivers receive. Even if the driver doesn't qualify for the race, the owner still receives points. The point system is to help each driver to "chase the championship." The championship is the ultimate goal for a driver in Nascar. The point rankings of driver determines where they stand in the "chase for the championship."

Does the point system need to change? No, the system itself is great. It helps to keep the drivers focused on the utimate goal and that is to win. The system even helps fans to know where their favorite driver stands in the ranking toward the ultimate goal of winning.

Want to learn more about the point system? Stay tune and watch the upcoming races of Nascar to better understand the point system.
