The most important action of any deodorant is to kill bacteria. Natural deodorant does this with essential oils. Coriander essential oil is effective in inhibiting underarm bacteria growth and is often used in natural deodorant products. Roman chamomile essential oil is also used in many natural deodorant products and its anti-inflammatory properties are useful for people with sensitive skin.
If you want a natural deodorant but don't want to pay the high price at natural health stores, you can make your own easily and inexpensively at home. If you don't perspire much, you may be able to get away with a simple fragrant body powder under your arms. However, most of us need a liquid natural deodorant that can be sprayed on.
How to Make Natural Deodorant - Ingredients Needed
The ingredients needed to make natural deodorant are minimal. First, you'll need essential oils to kill bacteria and give a nice, fresh scent. You'll need rosewood essential oil, cypress essential oil, coriander essential oil, lavender essential oil and sage essential oil to reduce perspiration.
The next ingredient you need to make natural deodorant is witch hazel. This acts as a carrier for the essential oils. If you do not have witch hazel, you can substitute Aloe Vera juice. Individuals with sensitive skin may wish to use Aloe Vera juice instead anyway as it is more gentle on the skin than witch hazel. If you have normal skin, use witch hazel to make natural deodorant if you can.
You'll also need about a tablespoon of rubbing alcohol and some liquid grapefruit extract to make natural deodorant.
How to Make Natural Deodorant - Step #1
The first step to make natural deodorant is to combine fifteen drops of rosewood essential oil, five drops of cypress essential oil, five drops of sage essential oil, five drops of coriander essential oil, two drops lavender essential oil, two ounces of witch hazel or Aloe Vera juice, one tablespoon of rubbing alcohol and four drops of liquid grapefruit seed extract in a spray bottle.
How to Make Natural Deodorant - Step #2
Once you've combined all of the ingredients in the spray bottle, the second and final step to make natural deodorant is to shake the bottle well and apply to the underarms as needed. Remember to shake the natural deodorant well before each use to thoroughly mix the ingredients.

great info, is the grapefruit extract grapefruit seed extract?
Thanks for this. The chemicals in deodorants and antiperspirants have long concerned me.
