How to Make Natural Floor Cleaners

Patti Winters
If you're looking for a safe and economical alternative to commercial floor cleaners, I've compiled three recipes to fit this need. Using these homemade products will reduce the chemical usage in your home, help the environment, and also save you some money. These cleaner recipes can quickly and easily be made from inexpensive ingredients that you may already have in your home, or can be easily found in town or on the internet.

INGREDIENTS:

Distilled White Vinegar
Essential Oils (of your choice)
Baking Soda
Castile Soap (available at health food stores)
Rubbing Alcohol
Washing Soda (available at Soaps Gone By)

RECIPE 1:

Add 1 cup distilled white vinegar to a gallon of water, in a bucket. You can also add 10-15 drops of essential oil for scent, if desired. Scrub or mop floor with mixture.

For tough stains, full strength vinegar can be used. Spray or pour the vinegar on the stain, and leave the vinegar on the stained area for 15 minutes before wiping up.

For tougher stains, sprinkle some baking soda over the white vinegar and scrub with a brush or sponge. Rinse clean with water. Care should be taken since the baking soda does have abrasive qualities.

RECIPE 2:

Mix a solution of 3 drops of castile soap (or dishwashing liquid) to 1 cup white vinegar, 1 cup alcohol, and 1 cup water. Spray sparingly and mop for a fast clean up.

RECIPE 3:

Combine 1 cup vinegar, 1/4 cup washing soda, 1 tablespoon castile soap and 2 gallons of hot water, in a mop bucket. Stir to dissolve the washing soda then mop as usual.
