How to Make a Natural Home Made All Purpose Cleaner

With soaring unemployment rates and rapidly rising prices for essentials such as clothing and food Americans are finding themselves financially stretched. An excellent way to save money and relieve some of that financial pressure while helping keep the Earth clean is to make your own cleaning supplies.

I have very sensitive skin and commercial cleaning products often cause my skin to break out. Gloves help but unless I cover myself from head to toe or quit cleaning altogether its almost impossible for me to use commercial cleaning products without causing myself considerable discomfort. This caused me to look for alternatives. I came up with the following recipe after searching in vain for an all-purpose cleanser that would not irritate my sensitive skin.

1 to 2 teaspoons of baking soda. How much baking soda you will need depends on the surface that you plan to clean. Baking soda is naturally abrasive making it easier for you to scour surfaces. If the surface you need to clean is very dirty then feel free to add extra baking soda. I recommend that you not exceed 3 teaspoons of baking soda though unless you do not plan on using a spray bottle to apply the mixture to surfaces. I have found that too much baking soda in the mix will quickly clog the nozzles on a spray bottle.

1/2 to 2 teaspoons of liquid dish soap. Dish soap is great for cleaning greasy surfaces and organic, additive free dish soap is readily available in many grocery and discount stores. I suggest that you use a 1/2 teaspoon of dish soap in the mixture unless the surface you are cleaning is very grimy. If the surface you are cleaning needs some extra attention feel free to use 2 or 3 teaspoons of dish soap in the mixture. However, if you use more than a 1/2 teaspoon of soap you will probably have to rinse the surface off after cleaning it to avoid soapy streaks and build-up.

2 cups hot water. The hot water will help dissolve the baking soda and will also make it easier to clean surfaces.

After procuring the necessary ingredients, put them in a plastic spray bottle and shake the bottle vigorously to blend them. After you have blended the ingredients your all purpose cleaner is ready for use. Use it in place of commercial all purpose cleaners such as Mr. Clean or Pine Sol.

If you would like you can make a larger batch of this mixture and store it in the refrigerator for up to two weeks so you will always have some on hand when you need it.
