How to Make Natural Home Made Glass Cleaner

Troubled economic times are causing many people to look for new ways to save money. making your own cleaning supplies is an excellent way to do that while also helping you reduce the amount of damage you do to the environment. Commercial cleaning supplies can also be very irritating for people with sensitive skin.

I formulated this recipe for home made glass cleaner after I grew tired of commercial blends irritating my skin. Commercial blends of glass cleaner usually contain ammonia which can also irritate the sinuses. In addition to sparing your skin and sinuses this glass cleaner is also easy to make and is inexpensive because it uses items you probably already have on hand.

3 tablespoons Vinegar. Use only distilled white vinegar for this purpose. Apple cider and other flavored vinegars can leave behind streaks and just aren't as effective at removing grime from glass as distilled white vinegar. The scent of the vinegar will dissipate a few minutes after use.

1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of liquid dish soap. Liquid dish soap is great for cleaning glass when mixed with water and vinegar. Organic and reduced additive dish soap is readily available at many grocery and discount stores. Also, since dish soap comes in many different scents you can easily scent your glass cleaner according to your preference. How much dish soap you will need in the blend depends on how dirty your glass is. For average jobs use 1/4 teaspoon for difficult jobs use 1/2 teaspoon. I suggest that you not use more than 1/2 teaspoon dish soap in the blend as it will leave unsightly streaks and build-up on the glass, requiring you to rinse it off. For extremely dirty jobs simply clean the glass multiple times.

2 cups water- Hot water will help you clean the glass more easily, but only slightly. Feel free to use cold if you prefer.

After you have procured your ingredients put all of them in a spray bottle and then shake the bottle to blend them. Use the finished glass cleaner to clean and shine glass, steel or any other surface that you would normally clean with glass cleaner. However, avoid using this cleaner on marble because the white vinegar contained in the blend will etch that type of surface.

If you would like you may make a large batch of the cleaner and store it in the refrigerator so you will have some on hand whenever you need it. I have successfully stored the cleaner in my refrigerator for one week. I have not attempted to store the cleaner for longer than one week but based on the ingredients believe the blend will keep for much longer.
