How to Make Natural Home Made Oven Cleaner

In an increasingly tight economy many Americans are looking for ways to save money. One way to save money is to make your own cleaning supplies with natural ingredients you may already have on hand. Cutting out potentially dangerous chemicals is an added bonus to making your own cleaning supplies.

One cleaning supply that is easy to make at home is oven cleaner. In addition to being expensive oven cleaner is caustic. I have a difficult time using oven cleaner because it causes me to get a rash, while searching for an alternative I came up with this recipe.

1 to 2 cups baking soda. How much baking soda you will need depends on how dirty your oven is. If it is particularly dirty then use 2 cups of baking soda.

2 1/4 cups water

1 to 2 teaspoons liquid dish soap. Again how much soap you will need depends on how dirty your oven is.

Before you begin cleaning your oven I suggest that you turn it on to the warm setting or 200 to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Leave it on for an hour or so and then turn it off. Begin cleaning the oven when it is still warm but not hot enough to burn you. I discovered that ovens are easier to clean when they are warm as the grease and other food matter has partially melted.

Begin cleaning the oven by pouring 1/4 cup of the water on the bottom of your oven. After putting the water on the bottom of the oven, cover it with baking soda and then add a little more water on top of it. Baking soda is abrasive and will help you easily scrub the dirt off the oven. Also, very few people are allergic to baking soda so it will save your skin the damage that would ordinarily be caused by use of oven cleaner. After adding the water and baking soda scrub the oven thoroughly.

If your oven is very dirty you may have to leave the baking soda on overnight. After thoroughly scrubbing your oven mix the 1 to 2 teaspoons of dish soap with 1 cup of water. Dip a washcloth in the mixture and use it to wipe the baking soda and dirt out of the oven; this will also help you scrub off any remaining dirt or grease.

After you have cleaned all of the dirt and grease out of the oven use the remaining cup of water to rinse the soap and baking soda out of the oven.
