How to Get a Natural Makeup Look

Wearing makeup does not mean you have to use more than you are comfortable with, but rather using natural-looking colors to enhance your beauty and cover any skin imperfections. Using natural makeup allows you to keep your look fresh, and your beauty routine easy to do each day with only a few simple tools and products. If you do like to experiment with bold makeup, switch up your look by going natural on some days--especially during the spring and summer months. Here are a few easy ways you can get the natural look with your makeup:

Cleanse and moisturize the face. Since you are using less makeup, you want your skin's natural beauty to be visible and blemish-free. Use a lightweight day moisturizer to avoid a greasy look and feel before applying foundation or concealer. Next, use a small concealer brush to dab yellow-tinted concealer on dark under eye circles. The yellow color will camouflage dark shadows, brightening up your eyes and face. Use a green-tinted concealer on red areas, especially around the nose or mouth.

Apply your favorite foundation to the face. To keep the foundation light and fresh, apply it with a damp cosmetic sponge. This will give the skin a dewy, airbrushed look--which is perfect when going natural. Once you are done, dust the face with translucent powder to set the foundation and keep it in place throughout the day. Translucent powder is ideal to use on warm days, since it will keep sweat from ruining the makeup.

Next, add a neutral shimmer or matte eyeshadow to the eyelids. If you want to try adding color to the eyes, choose natural earth tone colors like brown, gold, plum or dark green. To keep makeup minimal, you can also add color to the eyes by applying a brown, black or charcoal eyeliner on the upper lash line.

Add color to the face by using blush or bronzer. Gel or crème formulas work best, since they are easily rubbed into the skin for a natural appearance. Apply the bronzer on areas where sunlight naturally hits, such as the cheekbones, forehead, chin and bridge of the nose. Add blush to the cheeks, alongside the cheekbones up to the hairline.

Finish off the look by applying a coat of mascara, and using a fine-toothed comb to remove any clumps. Stick to one coat to keep the lashes looking natural--adding more than one increases the chance of clumpy lashes.

Use a lip gloss to add shine and color to the lips, or use a lipstain to add all-day color.
