How to Naturally Boost Your Immunity

Immune system is the self-defense system of our body and a strong immune system is very much essential in maintaining a healthy body and fighting infectious diseases. The cells that form part of our immune system are known as White blood cells (WBC). They are of two basic types, Phagocytes and Lymphocytes. The three types of immunity are innate immunity or natural immunity, adaptive immunity and passive immunity. Here are some tips for naturally boosting up the immunity of our body.

Studies have shown that eating a diet rich in anti-oxidants leads to a strong immune system. Anti-oxidants are vitamins and minerals, found in foods and available as supplements, which remove the free radicals from our bloodstream. Free radicals are capable of damaging DNA and suppressing the body's immune system.

Exercise, like even a brisk walk for 30-45 minutes every day can significantly improve our immunity. Besides improving our immunity, exercise also helps to detoxify our system.

Maintaining personal hygiene is one of the best ways of maintaining a healthy immune system. Always wash your hands thoroughly before and after using lavatory. Same practice should be followed before you eat any stuff with your hands.

Prolonged stress suppresses your immune system making you vulnerable to repeated illness. Hence indulging in any stress boosting activity like listening to music, hitting the gym, practicing yoga, pranayama and meditation can help you in boosting your immunity.

One should ensure that there is plenty of fluid intake so that the body stays hydrated.

Drinking plenty of fluids not only helps fight dehydration, but also plays an important role in boosting immunity. Also consumption of alcohol and caffeine should be restricted, since it not only leads to dehydration, but also leads to a compromised immune system.

Sleep deficiency can significantly reduce immune functioning, making you susceptible to illness and infections. Hence it is very essential to get adequate sleep and rest, since this leads to an enhanced immunity level.

Avoid unnecessary stress and tensions, and keep your temper under control. Avoid negative thinking and spend as much time as possible with your family and friends. This will go a long way in boosting your immunity levels.
