How to Network

Ways to Network and Network Effectively

L J Pearce
Networking is fun, scary, enjoyable and tiring all at the same time. But above and over everything else networking is more or less essential for business success. In this article are a few ideas, suggestions ways, and tips as to how you can network, make networking work for you and your business, and how you can network successfully:

1. Attend business meetings, or specific events for network, such as business breakfasts and business lunches. Get to know as many people as you can at the event and remember to give them a couple of business cards, one for themselves and one they can pass on.

2. Stay in touch with people you have met or networked with. You never know how useful these contacts could be for you, your business and its future.

3. Be interesting. The key to being successful at networking is to get peoples interest. Know how to gain and keep peoples interest and you will become a better networker, and you will have more success from networking.

TOP TIP: Be approachable. Remember that networking and networking events are difficult for people and probably for yourself, so step outside of your comfort zone, put on a smile and get out there and network.

4. Be helpful. Refer people you know to others who they might benefit from. Remember that being helpful in the short term will help you in the long run, be it getting more networks or even more business!

5. Hold your own networking events. If you really want to meet people and get networking then why not organise your own events. This is the perfect opportunity to meet new people that you might not have met otherwise.

6. Network both online and offline. Take any opportunity that comes you way with both hands, network offline through conferences, workshops and other events, and network online through chat rooms, social networking websites, discussion boards, blogs, twitter and so on.

TOP TIP: Always stay in touch or in some form of contact with people, don't let them forget what you do and how you can help them, but at the same time remember don't think Sell, Sell, Sell, instead think how you can genuinely be of help or use to this person.

I hope you have found this article both useful and helpful. Remember when networking to try and meet and talk to as many people as you can, use your time wisely and try not to spend all your time with one or two people. Good luck with your networking, I wish you every success and I hope you have fun.
