1. Start with a small, targeted list of realtors. They may be friends, neighbors, or even people you meet in the grocery store. Hone your list to about 25 real estate agents to start with. As your networking and business grows, so will your base of real estate professionals.
2. Realtors like to recommend people they trust and have proof of their work. Become one of these people by offering to perform you service at no cost for the real estate professional. Do this with no strings attached. However, mention to them that if they like the job you do, you would appreciate any recommendations or referrals. A real estate agent will appreciate your efforts and honesty. If you perform a good job, chances are they will recommend you to their next clients.
3. Once you've gotten your foot in the door with a realtor, keep in frequent contact. Realtors meet new clients daily, so keep your name in front of them at all times. As their business grows, so can yours.
4. Offer coupons and discounts "exclusively" to clients of your professional real estate contacts. Realtors love being able to offer their clients something no one else can. By providing exclusive deals for them to pass along to their clients, you are doing them a favor and making them look good.
5. Don't forget to show your thanks. You can show your appreciation to a real estate professional by sending a note, offering a free service every now and then, and sending clients their way. After all, you are in the business of being in others homes. When you find out that one of your clients is considering buying or selling a home, make sure you give them the name and number of one of your real estate professionals. Don't hesitate to let realtors know that as well, so they can follow up with them directly. Referring business is a two way street and your best way to establish a good rapport.
By properly networking with realtors you will ensure a steady supply of qualified leads to build your business. As these relationships are formed, you will be surprised at how easy it is to forge new ones with other realtors.

Post a CommentI really like what you are saying and am willing to do the things you say...but my dilemma has always been at step one...everyone says that you "need to" network with realtors...you "need to" pick about 25 and start with them...but my question is "how do you break the ice"? In my area, believe it or not, realtors are very cliquish, almost arrogant to a point, and it is very difficult to get your foot in the door. In my area, I have already spoken to several of them. With my company, we have a realtor gift card. It is a gift card for $50 that we GIVE (not sell, it costs the realtor NOTHING AT ALL) the realtor to give to their customer as a gift. "Thanks for buying or selling your house through me"...I have explained this program to several realtors and have gotten NO WHERE with it...Yes, I did explain to them that it is FREE for them. I have told others this, and they were amazed that the realtors did not jump at this because it makes the realtor look GREAT! A $50 gift from them redeemable at my company. Yet, the realtors have not gotten excited at all, even though I have been very upbeat about it.
I know that getting in with realtors is important in my business....I just need that BIG ice breaker...that big break....any ideas?
