"No! I can't believe I just lost my wallet! My life is ruined," you might say. Actually, your life is not ruined but it is natural to feel this way when you lose your wallet or card holder. If this has happened to you before, you are aware that this is not a comfortable predicament to be in. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to make sure that this never happens again.
One step you can take is to not carry your wallet or card holder in a side pocket unless you have something to clip it onto your pants with. I twice lost a wallet due to carrying it in a side pocket. I kick myself for not learning my lesson the first time.
It is better to carry your item in a deep front or back pocket. Do not wear pants that only have shallow front or back pockets. I once lost my wallet on a bus seat due to carrying it in a back pocket that was too short.
Another option is to carry a small card holder inside a shirt pocket. If you choose this option, hold a hand over your shirt pocket when you bend down to pick up something, especially if you are in an elevator.
Finally, you must use caution while using a public restroom. Yesterday, the back pocket I was carrying my card holder in flipped up after I pulled down my pants to sit down on a restroom toilet at a local university. I felt this happening but did not do anything about it, as I thought the item was securely in my pants. I did not discover I lost it until I came home. I was fortunate to get it back at a lost-and-found department across the hall today. Once you pull your pants back up, check your pocket to make sure that your item is all the way down in it.
You have learned how to carry your wallet or card holder securely. By following these steps, you can easily prevent your item from falling out.
