Ten years ago, most people barely understood the potential power of the World Wide Web. But New Jersey couple Erik and Beth Kent had the foresight to see the Internet's incredible possibilities - particularly its ability to connect wedding vendors to future brides and grooms and serve as a savvy business resource for the bridal industry.

On February 14, 1997, the Kents launched NJWedding.com to help wedding professionals advertise their services online and reach potential customers. The website currently profiles over 500 wedding businesses serving New Jersey and parts of New York and Pennsylvania. Today, as the Kents celebrate 10 years of serving the regional wedding community, they're gearing up for a future that's promising the largest marriage population since the Baby Boomer generation.

"For the past 10 years, the number of first marriages in New Jersey has remained flat, averaging about 35,000 per year," says Erik Kent. "But this is all changing as the 'echo boomers' (children of the Baby Boomers) move into their marrying years. According to a wedding industry report, the bridal market is projected to grow 22% over the next 15 years. We're making plans to accommodate for this great growth and its associated demands."

Changes are already in motion. Couples seeking help from NJWedding.com will find that the site now offers more features, including links to new vendors, wedding dress manufacturers/designers and exciting contests, such as a "Most Romantic Wedding Proposal" contest, which runs through the end of February, 2007. Other highlights include contemporary advice from wedding expert and renowned author Sharon Naylor, and special sections devoted to topics such as "South Asian Weddings," "Beach & Jersey Shore Weddings" and "Civil Union Celebrations."

"As the population of marrying couples increases, so does the diversity of issues we're addressing," Kent says. "Our success is dependent on our ability to provide the specific content and resources that are needed. Brides and grooms truly appreciate that when they come to NJWedding.com; they find answers and ideas that are tailored just for them."

In the years ahead,NJWedding.com will continue down its path of innovative online strategies. By looking for ways to accommodate the impact of the upcoming marrying population, its progressive approach will ensure a smooth wedding-planning journey for future brides and grooms, as well as a reliable, respected "place" in which advertisers can connect with clients.
