No Sew Fleece Scarf
Materials
fleece (2 colors)
tailors chalk
masking tape
tape measure
straight pins
scissors
Directions
To start the no sew fleece scarf, you will need to cut out a panel of fleece fabric that measures 6" wide by 24" long, from each color fleece. Now lay the 2 fleece panels on a flat work surface, smoothing the fabric so that it lays flat. Now measure in 2" from the edge, down the length of one fleece panel and make a few marks with the tailors chalk.
Next, line up the masking tape along the marks and run the tape down the entire length of the fleece panel, press the tape to the fabric. You should now have a 2" wide by 24" long vertical strip masked off with the tape. Now take the tape measure or a ruler and mark 2/3" sections along the entire strip of masking tape. This will be your guide for cutting the fringe.
Now take the fleece with the masked edge and place it tape side up onto the other fleece panel. Make sure to line up the edges, then use the straight pins and pin three sides of both fleece panels together, leaving the taped side unpinned. With the taped side facing you, begin cutting the fringe (through both layers of fabric), using the marks on the masking tape as your guide. Be sure to cut the fabric, just to the edge of the masking tape.
Once you have finished cutting the fringe, you are ready to tie the two panels together. Taking a strip from the bottom and the strip on top, tie the 2 strips together with a double knot. Continue tying all of the fringe together in this manner. When all of the fringe has been tied, unpin the fleece scarf and lay it flat with the fringe side up. If necessary, trim any ends that look longer than the rest. Your no sew fleece scarf is finished.
Tip: This no sew fleece scarf can also be made for a woman. Follow the steps above, only adjust the measurements to make the scarf a little wider and longer.
No Sew Fleece Hat
Materials
fleece fabric ( Scarf colors)
tailors chalk
masking tape
tape measure
straight pins
scissors
Directions
You will need to measure the circumference of the child's head to get a good fit. Once you have taken this measurement add 3 additional inches to allow for the fringe. Now cut the fleece fabric 14" high, by the measurement width (child's head + 3"). Lay out the cut fleece fabric on your work surface. Fold the width of the fleece fabric in half and pin along the fold and the 2 open ends.
Along the unpinned side of the fleece, measure in 2" from the edge and mark with the tailors chalk. Line up a strip of masking tape along the marks. You should now have a 2" wide by 14" long vertical strip masked off. Now take the tape measure or a ruler and mark 2/3" sections along the entire strip of masking tape. This will be your guide for cutting the fringe. With the taped side facing you, begin cutting the fringe (through both layers of fabric), using the marks on the masking tape as your guide. Be sure to cut the fabric, just to the edge of the masking tape.
Now take a strip from the bottom and a strip from top and tie the 2 strips together with a double knot. Continue tying all of the fringe together in this manner. Cut a strip of fleece 1" wide by approx. 10" long. Gather the hat together at the top and tie the strip of fleece approx. 4" down from the top, making sure to tie it good and tight. Take the long ends and shape them into a bow. If there are any knots on the fringe above the tie, be sure to UN-tie them.
Cut any strips of fringe that are too long. You should now have the look of a pom-pom. Take the strips of the pom-pom and cut each of them vertically to finish the top of the no sew fleece hat. Fold the bottom of the no sew fleece hat once or twice to create a brim. Your no sew fleece hat is finished.
Tip: Use the same colors of fleece fabric you used to make the scarf. Use one color for the hat and the other color for the tie and bow at the top of the hat.
