In this modern lifestyle, it usually doesn't come to mind that simple activities, in time may ruin ones hearing. Simple and fun activities such as listening to your ipod frequently and at high volume may ruin your hearing. Other activities such as going to a concert, especially a rock concert can also damage your hearing as well as listening to MP3 players. There are many examples of musicians and regular concert goers who experience tinnitus which is a buzzing, hissing or ringing in their ears. This noise is irritating especially when you are trying to fall asleep. Once your hearing is damaged, you will have to learn to live with it for the rest of your life.

When you constantly listen to loud music, you will suffer from hearing loss because it damages the cochlea which is the sensory part of your ear. The hearing nerve may also be damaged. Hearing loss will also cause other dangers in your life such as not hearing a car approaching you as you are about to cross a road. Also you will miss phone calls especially if the volume is on low. You will begin to miss conversations with people especially when they are not facing you.

Ways to prevent hearing loss and remedies available.

1. When you listen to your ipod or MP3 player, turn the volume down to an acceptable level. A good rule of thumb is as you are listening to your music, you should be able to listen to someone who is one feet away from you.

2. When you are mowing the lawn for example or you are at a rock concert, always wear for example ear plugs. Also wear earplugs if you work in a factory and you use machinery that makes loud noise.

3. Try to use your MP3 player less frequently.

4. Tinnitus gets worse if you are under stress. Find out what is causing your stress. If it's the pressure at work take a break. For example take a holiday to recharge. Also don't get stressed if you don't meet deadlines. Speak to your boss as the solution may be to employ someone to assist you or a colleague may be able to assist you. Also there are various treatments available such as massage. You should go to a medical practitioner to treat tinnitus. For example, there are hearing aids available that may reduce the noise. Also you may take supplements such as vitamin B12 may reduce the buzzing in your ears.
