How to Not Get Booted in Yahoo Chat

Are you constantly getting booted on Yahoo chat? Homegrown computer programmers, not legit professional computer programmers, are constantly making new programs to boot the undefended Yahoo chatters and I am sure you are sick of being booted each time you go into a chat room to chat. Below are some helpful tips on how to not get booted as well as how to get rid of the bots that are in the chat room taking up valuable chat screen space.

The first and foremost thing you should do is not to come into a Yahoo chat room with your Yahoo Messenger name. Not only is Yahoo Messenger easy to boot in the chat room, but you also leave the door open to hackers who can easily steal your name, which means you will lose your Yahoo Messenger account, all of your friends addresses you have saved on there, and your email account. If you must go in straight through Yahoo Messenger, at least make an alias and go into chat through the alias.

How to Make a Yahoo Alias
Making a Yahoo Alias is simple. Go to the Yahoo home page, www.yahoo.com, then go to "account", scroll down and there will be a link to create an alias. An alias is another name attached to your original Yahoo name. Make the alias, and next time you go to log into Yahoo Chat, simply click the down arrow from your name at the Join Room page and click on your alias. Enter with your alias name, this way others in the chat room will not know your original Yahoo name and therefore make it more difficult for them to steal/hack your email account.

The Benefits of Using a Yahoo Chat Client
A Yahoo Chat Client is simply another program to use instead of using Yahoo's chat program. Often times these clients offer a user friendly interface and have many more features than regular Yahoo Chat. There are several different clients you can use to chat in Yahoo rooms other than straight through Yahoo Messenger, one of my favorites is Yazak, www.yazakpro.com/yazak. Using Yazak gives you various options, a shield, ghost, etc that will help keep you from getting booted. Yazak is constantly updating their program to make it even more difficult to be booted from Yahoo Chat. It is also a more user friendly chat client. You have more font options, emoticon options, and you can turn your PMs off easier. It is also free.

By turning off your PMs, you are making it more difficult for the bullies in Yahoo Chat to boot you or to PM Bomb you. A PM Bomb is a private message bomb that sends you dozens if not hundreds of private messages. This will either slow down your chat screen or boot you from Yahoo Chat. Once you download Yazak, which is virus free, click on the PM ON/OFF button under the room list. Once you click there it will open a gray box that has several options you can click, simply click the option "no PMs", this will also keep the bots from messaging you.

Some people like to use YahElite, www.yahelite.com, as their chat client. Personally, I am not a fan of YahElite! but some swear by it. You can try it out and see if you like it, it is bootable, but not as easily bootable as chatting directly through Yahoo Messenger.

Common Sense Protection in Yahoo Chat
You should never give out your MAIN Yahoo Messenger name to chatters in Yahoo Chat rooms, more than likely they want to get your main Yahoo name so that they can hack it and steal it from you. Make up a fake Yahoo name to private chat with people from Yahoo Chat rooms and use that name only for chatting with strangers. Even when using a fake Yahoo name, once a hacker/bully programmer Instant Messages you, they can get your I.P. address. Once they have your I.P. address they can do many cruel things to you and your computer.

The skilled programmers/hackers/bullies can use your I.P. address to boot you easier and to even hack into your account. They can also use your computer as part of a "bot net" and use your connection to harm other chatters in chat land. So, be careful who you private chat with. For more information on what a bot net is, simply Google "bot net".

Another tip is to never give out too much personal information in Yahoo chat or any chat room, giving your first name is generally ok, but your last name should never go into the room. Common sense will tell you that giving out your full name is a big "no no", this is especially true if you have ever made mention as to what town you live in. It makes it easier for people to find you. All they have to do is Google your name and city and find you easily. A new site called www.spokeo.com gives out your address, phone number, and all kinds of other information. Use chat as a way to escape reality for a while and chit chat with others about topics that interest you, not to form real life relationships, although that does sometimes happen, and that is ok, just be careful when doing so.

Never Click on Links in Yahoo Chat
Never click on any link in a Yahoo chat room, oftentimes these links are links put up by the skilled programmers/hackers/chat bullies. By clicking on these links you are endangering your computer and many of these links may not be registered in your virus protection because they are brand new or low key; meaning, the programmer hasn't fully released them on the net, and are just testing out the virus/spyware in chat rooms before going public with them. Also, clicking on these links can make it easier for the booter to get your I.P. address thereby making it easier to boot you from Yahoo Chat or do other bad things as mentioned above. Just heed my advice, do not click links in Yahoo Chat.

Be Nice in Chat Just as in Real Life
Another Yahoo Chat tip is to not use vulgar language. Using vulgar language, which could include anything sexual, racist, political, etc is a surefire way to become a target of a Yahoo bully. They will make a heyday out of constantly booting you and trying any means necessary to make your Yahoo Chat experience a negative one. Talk in Yahoo Chat the same way you would in a real life public arena, speak as if you are speaking to people you are face to face with. On the computer a guy can't punch you for being out of line, but he can boot you or hack into your computer and do God knows what with your computer, its files, programs, etc. The best thing to do is be nice. Nice in chat, nice in real life and less bad things will come your way.

Yahoo Chat can be a fun experience if you just follow some common sense rules. Never give out personal information, don't come in looking for a fight, don't come in with your main Yahoo account name, create an alias, get a client such as Yazak or YahElite, and just have fun.
