How Not Coping with Stress Can Ruin Your Career

Todd Hicks
Are you stressed out on the job most of the time, if not always? Are you unable to handle pressure at the office? If your answer to either question is yes, you need to start conquering your anxiety. You will learn why the inability to cope with stress could be bad for your career.

It can hinder your performance. The more trouble you have handling pressure and relaxing, the more difficulty you are likely to have thinking at a high level and the less likely you are to work competently.

It can make it hard for you to think positively about yourself. Having doubt in your abilities can do you in. If you start being convinced you are no good once you make a mistake or things begin to not go your way, you will not be in the frame of mind you need to be in.

You must not become frustrated too easily or let little things rile you. If you do, there is a chance you will take it out on your fellow workers. The first reason this is detrimental is that you could lose allies who can help you succeed on the job, put in a good word for you, etc. The second reason is that employees who cannot get along with others are less likely to be kept on the payroll.

The state of your health is another thing that has to be factored in. The more tension you have, the more your health is likely to decline. Once this happens, you will probably miss more days at the office and have a hard time being productive.

You will find it hard to have fun and laugh. If you end up being this way, there is a good chance that nobody in the organization will want to be bothered with you.

It can make it hard for you to forgive others. Dwelling on what they have done to you can lower your productivity as you waste time being bitter.

It may impede your ability to get along with your boss. If you have a hard time coping in a professional atmosphere and dealing with deadlines and heavy workloads, there is a chance you will become annoyed and snap at your boss anytime he or she gives you direction or work.

It can adversely affect your attitude. It could cause you to be unhappy and say or do dumb things.

It might lead you to have a breakdown. If this happened, you would probably not be seen favorably.

You have learned why the inability to cope with stress can be bad for your career.

Great topic. It is so very important to know how to effectively relieve stress. Stress truly is counterproductive.
