How to Not Have an Ego like Kanye West

Kanye West for the second time interrupted someone else's victory speech at the VMAs, and this time it wasn't even in his category. Interrupting Taylor Swift during her speech was considered the lowlight of the entire affair by many news sources, and I must say that the simple fact that Kanye stole the microphone from a woman shows that his ego is way out of line. Notwithstanding that the whole thing may have been planned, as many of these stunts are (Super Bowl, Janet Jackson), here's how to not have an ego like Kanye West, especially when you have been as blessed as he is.

Make sure you give thanks to your higher power. To not have an ego like Kanye West, you must remember that there are bigger things than you going on in this world. Even if you are a celebrity, you must remember that people have many real problems. Some people can't find jobs. Some people are getting kicked out of their house. The fact that your boss's wife didn't win for best video shouldn't be a cause for large concern, especially when Beyonce herself didn't feel the need to get up there and say anything. Neither did Jay Z. The first step to not have an ego like Kanye West is to remember people have real problems.

Once you remember others, you must spend your time doing productive things. It's difficult to have an ego like Kanye West when you're creating or working, either for yourself or for others. Idle hands are the devil's playground, as they say, and even if you aren't religious, the "devil" can also mean unproductive action, like the one Kanye took against Taylor Swift. The productive action to take might have been to ask Taylor who did her video, or what did she think made her win, or comparing ideas between Beyonce's video and Taylor's, to make it better next year to make sure she won. The second step to not have an ego like Kanye West is to stay productive.

If you remember other people, and stay productive, the last step to not have an ego like Kanye West is to simply mind your own business. Others have desires and wants just like you, and if they achieve their goals before you achieve yours, give them praise. Life is not a zero sum game, and just because you lost this time doesn't mean you'll lose next time. If you stick to your business and don't worry about anyone else's, you'll be able to do productive action on your own behalf, thus raising your own standing. The third step to not have an ego like Kanye West is the simplest -- mind your own eggs!
