~Dress Up
All you may mean by the comment is that maybe a woman should try to dress more feminine or wear more makeup. However, a woman should be comfortable with herself. If she has to dress or act differently, then she's not going to find the right man. The right man is out there, but he's not going to recognize your friend if she's trying to be something she's not.
A single woman will hear this comment as you telling her she's not good enough. The last thing a single woman needs to hear is that even her friend doesn't think she's good enough to find love. Support your friend for who she is. A makeover can be a good thing, but be sure it's something your single female friend is completely comfortable with first.
~Try Harder
Single women try hard to look for love. They dress up, go out, look online and go on blind dates. Telling them to try harder implies they don't really want love after all. Encourage a single woman to keep looking, but don't make them think they're not giving their all.
This advice is often given when a woman starts to date. If a woman really wants the relationship to work, she'll do everything she can to keep the relationship going. However, telling her to try harder makes her believe any problems in the relationship are her fault. She'll end up being more uncomfortable in the relationship and when it ends, she'll have that much more trouble looking for love again.
~Lower Your Expectations
Every woman has their idea of the perfect man or woman. However, telling a single woman not to look for the person of their dreams implies you don't think they deserve someone like that. This discourages them and they'll likely end up in a string of bad relationships.
When a single woman finds a great man or woman, her expectations will magically fit the person. Focus on expanding her expectations instead of asking her to lower them.
~You're Too Intimidating
The classic woman is meek and submissive. In reality, women aren't like that. A single woman should be allowed to be confident, opinionated, and hard working. They can have a wonderful career or enjoy a more domestic lifestyle. If a man or woman is intimidated by them, then the person isn't right for them.
A single woman shouldn't have to pretend to be sweet, innocent, and docile just to meet someone. This will only create a false person and a horrible relationship. Asking a single woman to be something she's not will only make her miserable and cause her to date people she's completely incompatible with.
Support your single female friend in her quest for love. Let her be herself and be proud of who she is. If you really want her to find the perfect match, think before you cut down her confidence or try to change her. Encourage and support. That's your job as a wonderful friend.
