How Not to Vomit

Mitestarossa
If you are feeling like you need to vomit, but for some reason it is inconvenient in time or place, you can hold back your vomiting. Normally when your body needs to vomit it is for a good reason. It wants to expel something repulsive, dangerous or poisonous out of your system. So, if you can vomit, you should do so.

Just as with other human attributes, vomiting is mostly mental. Once you think you are going to do it, you inevitably will do so. The trick is to stop thinking about vomiting.

Step One: Breathe deeply to avoid vomiting. This is the perfect time to take ten deep breaths.

Step Two: Focus on not vomiting. Keep telling yourself that you are not going to vomit.

Step Three: Move away from the toilet. If you even look at the toilet, you may vomit. Do not look at the toilet, do not look at the trash can or the barf bag. Look at trees or other scenery.

Step Four: Go outside immediately. Go outside and take more deep breaths. The fresh outdoor air will help you relieve your urge to vomit. Do not walk down an alley or other area where you may be near trash cans, because just the smell of them may bring the urge to vomit back.

Step Five: Swallow if you need to. Swallow, even if it means that you are swallowing some vomit. I know this sounds gross, and you do not need to do it if the time is convenient for vomiting, but if you really do not want to vomit, then swallow.

Step Six: Avoid drinking water. Drinking water will make you feel like you have to vomit, so try to avoid drinking water for at least thirty minutes after the feeling of vomiting has subsided.

Step Seven: Avoid breath mints. Breath mints, mouth wash and other fresheners will also make you feel like you have to vomit, so do not use them until the feeling has passed.

Step Eight: Drink a bubbly water. Drink so sort of carbonated water such as Seven Up, sparkling mineral water or soda that you like. It will settle your stomach and make you feel better.

Step Nine: Take an antacid. Taking a Tums, Pepto Bismal or Rolaid will help your stomach to calm down.

The bottom line is that an occasional vomit is healthy, and you should not hold it unless you absolutely feel that it is necessary.
