Or you can learn to calculate the old fashioned way with a bit of paper and a pen. This will be the most time-consuming method but will also give you that sense of achievement.

Calculator options

There are two different generally accepted calculator methods.

1. Pythagorean Numerology Method

The Pythagorean method is believed to have originated from the famous Greek mathematician Pythagoras who was born in the year 580 BC. Pythagoras is most well known for his solution to the hypotenuse of a right triangle which as we all know is a^2+b^2=c^2.

The Pythagorean method is the most common of the numerology systems, mostly because it is the easiest to learn. The Pythagorean method is based on a simple and sequential translation of the alphabet letters to numbers 1-9.

The method for calculating your birth number can be derived by using two numbers from your birth date and three more taken from your name. These five numbers are then added together and then added again until you get to a single number. This single number is then considered to be your birth number and will give the insight in to your personality and character traits.

2. Chaldean Numerology Method

The Chaldean method of numerology has its roots way back in ancient Babylon. This method is also closely related to the Indian Vedic system and the Hebrew mystics system of Kabbalah. The Chaldean system is not as popular as the Pythagorean because it is a lot more difficult to master but it is considered to be more accurate. The Alphabet values are not as straight forward as other systems. This is based on the theory the every single letter has its own unique vibration and numbers are assigned with the letters based on their different values.

You will notice that in the Chaldean method no letter is assigned to the number 9. This reason the number nine is not used is because the Chaldeans considered the number nine to be a very sacred and holy number, and so therefore needed to be kept apart from the rest.

The Chaldean method uses both your name and your birth date, but be aware that name you are best known by is the name you use. (If your name is Margret but you have been called Peggy for most of life then Peggy is the name you will use)
