There are a many reasons that people make their own soap. One of the greatest advantages of making your own soap is that you will know all of the ingredients that are in it and you can make it personalized to your own wants and needs. One of the easiest soaps to make at home is oatmeal soap. Oatmeal has a lot of qualities that make it wonderful to use as a beauty product. Oatmeal can be used as a natural exfoliant because it soothes the skin and relieves it from itchiness. It is a natural product that can be found in any grocery store and is inexpensive to buy.

Supplies needed:

-1 large bar of soap (unscented and uncolored such as Dove)

-3 or 4 tablespoons of oatmeal

-4 or 5 tablespoons of water

-blender or food processor (mortar and pestle works just as well)

-large microwave safe bowl

-soap mold or muffin tin

- sharp knife

-microwave

Use the knife to shave the bar of soap into small flakes into the microwave safe bowl. Add the water into the bowl of soap. Microwave until the soap is mostly melted. Depending on your microwave two or three minutes should be enough. Watch carefully so the soap does not bubble over. While the soap is in the microwave grind the oatmeal into smaller flakes. You do not want to grind it into flour though. When the soap is melted, add the oatmeal to the soap and mix together. Pour the hot soap and oatmeal mixture into your soap mold or muffin tin. Let the soap dry completely and pop it out from the mold. The drying process will probably take at least a couple of hours. I normally let it dry overnight and it is good to use the next morning. If you are using a metal muffin tin you might want to lightly spray it with natural oil (coconut oil, almond oil, jojoba oil etc.) so the soap slides out of it easily when dry.

Other possible ingredients:

This simple recipe is great for the skin but there are some other products that you can add to make it more personal for your skin. Essential oils can make the soap into the scent that you like. Lavender is known to help with relaxation and tea tree oil is known to help with blemishes. To make the soap look a little fancier you can add some food coloring.
