Do you have a knack for selling? Do you enjoy looking at different homes and properties? If you said yes to both of these questions, you may want to consider obtaining your Maine real estate license. While the economy and real estate is on the downswing, you will find that things will turn around. When the real estate outlook gets better, you may find there is a great need to for licensed agents in Maine.

The first thing you must do to obtain a Maine real estate license is take a Real Estate Sales Agent course and pass with a 75. To find out where upcoming classes are, you can visit the Maine Real Estate Commission.

After you have passed the Sales Agent course with a 75 or better, you must then send in an application to take the Maine Sales Agent exam. Again, you must pass this will a score of at least 75. You may also request a copy of the Real Estate Exam Candidate Handbook with this form, as well. The handbook will break down the test for you and let you know specific items you should study. You must also take this test within a year of completing your sales agent class or you will need to retake the class again.

Once you have passed the course and the real estate exam, you must then become affiliated with a real estate agency. What this means is that you must already be hired by a real estate agency in order to get your license. The reason for this is that you must have someone to watch over you and be responsible for your work. The head of a real estate agency is known as the Designated Broker. They are ultimately responsible for you and your license. You will find many agencies are more than willing to take on a new sales agent to their firm and you will find many will offer all the help you will need to get started in your new career.

After you have been accepted by a real estate agency, you will then complete a Real Estate Agent License application. This can also be found at the Maine Real Estate Commission website. Complete the application in full, enclose your fee, and mail it to them. The application will give them your complete information and permission to do a thorough background check. Requirements to get a license include a high school diploma or equivalency, you must be at least 18 years of age, and you must not have a criminal background.

Once your application for a Real Estate Sales Agent License has been approved and received by the agency you will be working with, you may start your new career as a Real Estate Sales Agent under the guidance of your Designated Broker.
