In Indiana you need a marriage license before getting married. The marriage license is accepted statewide and can be performed by a member of the clergy of any religion, a judge, a clerk of the circuit court, a magistrate, or a clerk of the city.

What You Will Need When You Apply For Your Marriage License:

You must provide proof of residence by showing your driver's license, State ID, or Passport showing your current residential address.

A 17 year old getting married in, Indiana must apply for the marriage license with both his, and her parents, or with the person whom has legal custody. Both Custodial consent and signature are required.

A 15 or 16 year old will need to file a petition for "Permission to Marry" in the Circuit Court. The petition filing cost of $124 has to be paid even if the judge refuses permission to marry.

A divorcee or a widower, will need to know the date of divorce, or date of death of your spouse.

If the groom is below 50 years of age, then a premarital examination certificate has to be produced.

To File for a Marriage License In East Chicago, Indiana:

Go to the East Chicago, city clerk office along with your fiancée. Both partners need to be present to get the marriage license.

Pay the marriage license fee. If you live in Indiana, the fee is $18 and if you live out of Indiana, it is $60. You can get your marriage license immediately.

Precautions:

You should marry within 60 days of obtaining the marriage license, or else it will lapse and you will need to apply for a new one.

Your marriage license should be signed by the person who is presiding your marriage, and the marriage license should be sent to the Clerk of the Court. It should be done within 30 days of marriage, so that your marriage can be recorded.
