How Old is Dick Clark Now After Latest Rockin Eve?

Robert Dougherty
How old is Dick Clark now? Before, the question of how old is Dick Clark now would have inspired countless jokes. As the most well preserved icon in the business, it seemed that he would live forever, and forever look young doing so. However, reality set in harshly years ago, after he suffered a stroke. Although he still welcomes in the New Year on Rockin Eve, he hasn't been at full strength in a long time. 81 is how old Dick Clark is now, although no one knows how long he has left to welcome the New Years.

Before his stroke in 2004, the television legend was the butt of many jokes about looking young, even in his mid-70's. But since he got type 2 diabetes in 2003, and had his stroke a year later, he has finally started to look his age.

How old is Dick Clark now, for real? He turned 81 on November 30, although he still went out to co-host New Years Rockin Eve. He now has to split his duties with Ryan Seacrest, who will take over full time whenever the time comes.

The only time Clark missed New Years Rockin Eve was 2004, after he had his stroke. Regis Philbin took over that year, then Seacrest was chosen to co-host in 2005 when Clark returned. Despite his condition and slurred speech, he has come back without fail for six straight years.

Because of how old Dick Clark is now, and because of his health difficulties, viewers may worry that his next New Years Rocking Eve could be his last. However, he seems to improve a bit with each passing year, and even did the final countdown last night with less difficulty.

Before, just performing a countdown was old hat for him, moreso than almost any other man. Yet he has fought just to carry out that simple task, and speak many others. But he was best known for his longevity before the stroke, and he has still shown that quality afterwards - perhaps to a greater extent than ever before.

Next year, the answer to how old Dick Clark is now will be 82. However, no matter what his age is, and what he is suffering through, it still appears that he will be in Times Square on December 31. Although Seacrest is becoming the master of ceremonies for much of New Years Rockin Eve, the show's true icon always leads the way at the end.

It is a New Years Eve tradition to see the ball drop at Times Square, and to hear Clark count it down - no matter how his voice sounds. That tradition continued without a hitch in 2010, and now there are 364 days until Clark can do it again, at age 82.
