How Omega 3 is Beneficial to SAD

Who has never experienced a bout of depression when the days grow shorter and the sky turns gray? When the weather is bad, morale fails. Focus on alternative medicines that will help us find the right mood.

The causes of SAD

We do not know the exact cause of SAD, but it seems that the decrease in brightness and the absence of sun plays a major role in this disease. Moreover, we note that those people working at night or living in a poorly lit environment may also suffer, even in summer. It is difficult to tell if light is the only responsible source to SAD but the fact is, that people living in northern countries, which are less exposed to light are more affected by this pathology.

While women are most frequently affected, men are not spared. However there are many existing solutions to cope with this type of depression.

Trace Elements

To find the balance and good humour, one rarely thinks to use natural solutions. Trace elements are essential to life. They are found at many levels of functioning of the cell and are the workers of our good health on a daily basis. Iron, iodine, copper and zinc are elements that act to maintain certain proteins such as iron to produce our hormones. There is no question about how to regulate moods. Selenium serves not only as an anti-oxidant but also regulates moods. Let us not forget that magnesium increases our resistance to stress. They are not the only ones that work.

Omega 3

Omega 3, is now well known to play an important role in the mechanics of depression. We know the importance of these fatty acids in both the prevention of cardiovascular disease and mood disorders.

It was thought that there was a connection between the two diseases but now we have a new and natural solution to treat depress. The association of trace elements and omega 3 promises an unbeatable synergy: the fight against deficiencies, the fight against stress and inflammatory diseases and provision of anti-oxidants. Indeed in the case of oxidative stress, the addition of antioxidants such as selenium is particularly recommended to prevent the oxidation of Omega 3, which, without added antioxidants, may prove ineffective.

One study showed that transient depression could be due in part to too much omega-6 to the detriment of Omega 3. This is one more reason why we should take Omega 3 supplementation.

Attention to Omega 3 quality!

Not all Omega 3 is the same. Some of them are derived from enriched fish oil and everything depends on the fishing of these fish as only the pristine ocean areas are free from pollution and provide good quality. Therefore, bear in mind the quality before choosing any intake of Omega 3.
