How to Open PDF Files Without Adobe Reader

There are different types of files available for different types of documents and each one of them have an extension with it. One such file is a PDF file associated with the Adobe Acrobat software. Generally, PDF files are known for their high compactness and better interactivity. This makes them a lot better than Microsoft word files. The best part of the pdf file is that you can write in a PDF file just as you do in a word file and send it over the internet in a secure manner. The major disadvantage with Adobe Acrobat software is that it takes a lot of time while loading the application onto the memory and also consumes a lot of resources during that time. Besides, it consumes a lot of memory on an operating system like Windows Vista, a memory hungry operating system. I have a better replacement for Adobe reader. Users will be able to open PDF files with the help of free and light weight "Foxit PDF reader" instead of using the heavy and resource eater - Adobe reader. Since, Adobe also installs an "IFilter" that helps Windows index your documents and our goal is to do the same without using Adobe Reader.

Installation

Installation of "Foxit" application is quite easier and takes less time to install itself on your computer system. In order to throw out Adobe Reader from our system, we will have to download and install IFilter. In order for this to work properly, we will have to rebuild the index.

Open the Start Menu Search Box and type "Indexing". This will load up the Indexing Options.

Select the 'Advanced Options' button and then click 'Rebuild' button. 'Rebuild' option takes a lot of time so you better do this task before you go to sleep.

After the Rebuild process is over, you will be able to run the PDF files without using Adobe reader. Once you are satisfied with the performance of how your PDF files opens up in your system, you can uninstall the Adobe Reader if you have already installed that on your system.

Note: If you are using an Adobe Acrobat professional version for editing of PDF files, then use of Foxit software is not recommended. Since, you will not be able to edit the software with the same. Foxit software is only helpful for viewing PDF files. For other tasks, you will have to use the Adobe Acrobat software itself.
