How to Optimise Your Computer's Performance

The computer technology has developed so much that the improvements in that field are very rapid. The upgrades have become so frequent that no one could say, 'I've got the latest configuration in my computer'. The situation being so different, everyone wants to have a very fast computer. Most of us don't use the full potential of our computer. Every one wants to squeeze till they get the last bit of juice from their computer. This is called tweaking. Making some fine adjustments, to dramatically improve the performance, is called tweaking. I tweak my computer for a better performance. There are a number of ways to do the tweak and make it successful. Here I am giving some of the techniques by which you can enhance the performance of your computer. A computer is after all a machine and like any machine, it generates a lot of waste, junk which if not removed will decrease its performance. The only difference between a computer and other machines is that the junk produced by the computer is also in a soft form, that is bits and pieces of information which are not longer required.

But before trying to tweak the computer we have to backup the hard drive just incase you make an error. These tweaks are explained just in the surface level. Speeding up the booting process will reduce the waiting time. We can make use of this time more efficiently. We should perform the scan disk and defragment operations followed by the registry clean operation.

The registry has to be cleaned regularly otherwise it would lead to improper functioning due to accumulation of files over a long period of time. To remove this you should go open the Control Panel and click on Add/Remove Programs icon, this would open up a list of programs installed on your computer, next select a program which you don't use any more and click uninstall. This would remove all the files associated with that program. But in reality, the uninstall procedure may not do a thorough cleanup job and a certain number of leftover's will be found in the Registry. This could be cleared using registry clean up techniques or registry cleaning software.

We should reduce the unwanted programs in the startup option. We can use the msconfig command in the run command box, to access the startup options of the windows. Reducing the number of programs at the startup could increase the startup speed. We can use the task manager to cut down unnecessary usage of memory (Random Access Memory). Another efficient method of improving the performance is tweaking the CMOS. The tweaks can also be used for the internet connection to increase the download speed. These tweaks have a sequence of changes in the internet settings which could be made manually or using software. Many readymade software packages are available to boost the modem speed.

The operations of the cd-rom drives could be improved using DMA mode. The DMA mode, which could be expanded as Dynamic Memory Access, allows the smooth transfer of data between hard disk and cd-roms. DMA transfers are essential for high performance embedded systems. Drivers also influence the performance.Companies release improvements to the drivers for their hardware. It could be found on the company's site.

The regular cleaning of the computer also influences the working. Cleaning the fans, ensures better cooling of the graphics card and the other devices which tend to get heated up easily.

The tweaking of computer give unmatched advantages. But the risks are involved in this process are also innumerable. One cannot afford the luxury of crashing the computer trying to achieve something higher than the basic requirement. I have crashed my computer many times, trying some of the weird tweaks. But the system restore, often helps me to come out of the problem.
