How to Optimize Your Torrent Download Speed
A Step-by-step Torrents Guide to Maximize Torrents Downloads
1. The first thing you need to do to optimize your download speed is hack the max half-open TCP connections. If you are using Windows XP Service Pack 2, your TCP connections are limited to a maximum of 10. This can reduce your downloading speed because it will not let you connect to as many peers as you want. This slows down the speed viruses spread, but it can hinder your torrent downloads. You need to download the following patch to fix this:

2. After downloading and running the patch, you can now set the maximum allowed connections to any number you want. The ideal number is between 50 and 100.
*If you are using uTorrent, go to Options and then Preferences. After that, select Advanced options and then net.max_halfopen.
*If you are using BitComet, you will need to click Options button located near the top of the window. After that, select Preferences, Connection, and then max half-open TCP.
3. It is important to know that some Windows updates may revert your tweaked TCP connections back to 10. Because of this, it is important to check this occasionally. You can check this by clicking the Start button located at the bottom-left corner of the desktop. Once the Start menu opens, click Control Panel. After that, click the Administrative Tools icon and select Event Viewer. Click System and look for event 4226. If this event is present, your TCP connection was reset back to 10.
4. The next thing you need to do is tweak your maximum upload speed. If you don't use the maximum upload speed, there will not be enough space left for the files you wish to download. You can calculate your optimal upload speed by taking 80% of your maximum upload speed.
5. Now you need to configure your maximum download speed. Your optimal download speed can be calculated by taking 95% of your maximum download speed.
6. You will then need to configure the maximum connected peers per torrent. You need to multiply your upload speed by 1.3 to calculate the ideal number of connected peers per torrent. You will also need to configure the maximum upload slots by using the following formula:
1 + (upload speed / 6)
