How Organic Foods Can Help You

It is believed that organic foods are safer and higher in nutrients than conventional foods. This is because they aren't using pesticides on them and there are certain steps taken in which to keep them more nutrient rich. Guidelines are set by third party corporations, like the USDA, in regards to what will be on the labeling of the organic foods, letting the consumer know just how "organic" their food is. The best bet is to watch for 100% organic, which guarantees no pesticides or genetic modifications. Even though these foods are organic it still makes sense to wash your fruits and vegetables before you eat them though, because you never know who was handling them and what was on their hands!

Organic farming has seen a growth over the years because of supply and demand. Many people are seeing the benefits of this more healthful choice in foods and are seeking it out. Though there are still stores that do not carry organic produce, surprisingly. When more people want it, more stores carry it and, of course, the price goes up. The growth of this market may depend on the price, as many people find it hard to afford organic foods, though if you do some shopping around and watch for sales the price difference is not at all that significant. Health food stores carry organic foods, but you might find a price break at a local "regular" grocer where they don't specialize in these foods.

The popularity of organic farming also stems from people's fear of the chemicals and pesticides used in "regular" farming, and all of the genetic modification being done with our foods, both plant and animal based. With so many types of cancers and not any specific answers to where some cancers and other diseases come from, it is easy to point fingers at things like pesticides. And there are good reasons for that, but then there are also the millions of people that eat non-organic and are still very healthy. There is no way to know immediately if the change to organic foods can stop some of the diseases out there, but why not give it a try- it couldn't hurt, could it?
