Having a good clear out is a great way of tidying up and seeing what clothes you have and what clothes you need.
Step 1. Clear out.
Be honest, you know what you wear all the time, so you can skip past that. Look at the things you are unsure about. When was the last time you wore said item? Will you wear it again? Unless it's a special occasion outfit, if you haven't worn it in the past year and a half, you're not going to! You'll need to be ruthless, give the clothes you are getting rid of to a charity shop or a friend, this will be helpful for them, and it will also help to soften the blow for you.
Step 2. Organise.
Look at what you have left, and organise it. Hang similar items close together so you don't need to search through every morning. Keep skirts together, long sleeve tops together, you get the idea.
Step 3. What are you missing?
Look for gaps in your wardrobe, do you have loads of great tops, but barely any trousers? Look carefully and write down what you need.
Step 4.Get what you need.
Go out and buy what you need.
Step 5. Padding.
Invest in a set of padded hangers, they will help to keep the shape of your clothes, and they are much better for the fabric than wire ones.
Step 6. Line your drawers.
Line your drawers to protect your clothes from wood acid, which is bad for the fabric. Use quilted fabric or acid free paper. Do not use wallpaper as this will attract insects.
Step 6. Moths.
Moths eating clothes is a much more rare occurrence nowadays, they do not like a great deal of the more modern synthetic fabrics. But if you have a lot of cotton fabrics, use mothballs to repel them. Alternatively, having your clothes dry cleaned also acts as a moth repellent.
Step 7. Shoes.
If you have a lot of shoes, a shoe rack or tree is a good idea, shoe trees will help your shoes to keep their shape. Also, clear plastic boxes will help you to keep your shoes protected and clean, but at the same time you will still be able to see which ones they are.If you do not want to spend the money for the clear plastic boxes, keep the original shoe boxes (and lids) and stick a picture of the shoes on the top or side!
