How To Get Started:

First thing to do is get you some plastic totes, make sure you have a verity of sizes depending on the toys your child plays with, and some type of shelving system. These will be used later on in this project. The idea is that if you have more then one child they each get their own totes, unless they share all of their toys. By organizing their things in this way will help them to become more organized as they grow older.

Now that we have purchased our shelving systems and plastic totes, it is time to get to the organizing part of the task. You can either have you children help you, or not, this will depend on their ages. You will need to start gathering all of the toys and divide them into categories. Example of some of these categories, these are for a all of those boy's toys,Small Cars (matchbox or smaller size), Larger Cars (large monster truck size),Trains (for each different size), Train tracks (types and sizes), Small plastic men (army men size), Blocks Wooden and Plastic and some category ideas for all of those girl's toys,Small Dolls (Polly Pocket Size), Barbie (one just for dolls, one for Clothes and one for their accessories), One for her Larger Dolls, and if they have clothes and accessories do the some for them as you did the Barbie's. For both of the boys and the girls have a What is It category for all of those wonderful fast food kids meal toys, that you have no idea what they are. Don't forget the rummage, donate, and a trash categories and use these to thin out your piles of toys.

Now that we have all of these toys organized into smaller piles, you can start putting them into the plastic totes that will fit the amount of toys in the piles. The size of these totes may change over time and the toys grow. This step will clear up the room for the next step, following the directions and putting up the shelving system, that you purchased earlier. This is where you may need to ask for some help from either your spouse or another family member. Always remember to keep safety in mind. After you get your shelving system put into place, you will need to organize all of these totes. Keep the most played with toys at the child's reaching height and the things less played with much higher on the shelves. If you have more then one child and they have their own toys, you may want to put their name, with a label on a shelf or the totes just for them. Keeping these totes light will help you child carry them from room to room when they choose to play with their toys, and will make clean up much easier when they are done playing. Some of your bigger totes and toys will still need to find a happy home on the floor, there should now be enough room for this to happen.

Organizing your child's room in this way will help to eliminate the big toy box, that can be a big hazard in most child rooms. These are just good places for your child to get trapped in, and little figures to get pinched in. As parents need to try and keep our kids rooms a safe place for them to play in, and by organizing their toys in this way should help.

The final step is to step back and take a long look at the child's room, and tell yourself job well done. You will need to help your child to stay organize, this will take time and patients, it can be done. Now that you have one room organized, look at other rooms in your house where this will type of organizing will work in. For example this will work in the laundry room, kitchen, home office, craft room and many more rooms. Now is the time to get started in these rooms, so you will have a well organized house, and that will just make you feel less stress in your daily life.

I hope that I have helped you organize your child's bedroom, and maybe given you some organizing tips for some other rooms in your house. Now go wrangle up all of those toys, and have some fun while you organize your world.
