How to Organize Photos in the Yahoo! Contributor Network (YCN) Image Gallery

Organize Your YCN Images for Easier Access

Y! Lyn

Is it getting difficult looking through the images in your Yahoo! Contributor Network (YCN) image gallery to find the perfect one? Then, it's time you organize them to make that process run more smoothly. Here's an easy guide on organizing images in the YCN image gallery.

Tagging Photos
When choosing tags for photos, be sure to add as many relevant ones as possible. For instance, if you are tagging a photo of a dog, don't just put 'dog' as a tag. You also might use words like animal, puppy, labrador, fetch, park, etc - whatever applies to the dog and the scenery. When you upload a photo to the gallery, you will see a space to add tags. To add tags to existing info, you can click a photo in the gallery one at a time and change the tag info at the bottom of the gallery. If you are uploading photos while submitting an article, you will not see a tag section. But you can always go to the content tab and then to the images tab to edit them in later.

Creating Folders in the Image Gallery
In the left column of the gallery, underneath the "My Gallery" and "Public gallery" tabs, you'll see a button labeled "Add Folder." Left-click that button once to make a new folder appear right above the button. Name your new folder and hit the enter key. If you mess up, don't worry. You can change it at any time by clicking the blue R (rename). You also may delete a folder at any time by clicking the red x. Renaming or removing a folder will not affect the images.

Adding Photos to Folders
To add photos to folders in the Image gallery, simply click to check off one or more photos. In the menu bar that will show up at the bottom, click each folder you want that photo or set of photos to be in. To keep organization simple, be sure to add your photos to all relevant folders as soon as you upload them. This way, when you are searching for an image, you can check related folders instead of looking through all your photos.

Other Tips

--- In addition to being able to sort images into folders, you also can search for them by typing a word or phrase into the search box on the left. Then, click the filter button.

--- Tagging images with as many relevant phrases as possible will make them easier to find in a filtered search. Images without tags won't come up except by searching credit or copyright info.

--- To ensure that images are quality, try not to shrink the resolution size too much before uploading to YCN. The smaller the image, the lower the quality will be when it is displayed. This can lead to blurriness. The ideal display size for YCN images (in pixels) is 470 x 314.

Orchiolum, that can happen if you change the description or tags to use the photo on more than one article. There needs to be a copy for each description change because otherwise changing the description would change it on all articles the photo is displayed on.

I've uploaded single photos which I later find have been duplicated 1-3 times on my photo page. I wonder why?
