So how is this giant festival put together? First you need to start at the beginning of the spring semester and if possible, even earlier than that. Then you need to start contacting your school's food provider and arrange for the details for the food provider to make food for the event. This usually constitutes burgers, fries and hotdogs with soda. The cost of the food is usually negotiable somehow, unless your school has an exclusive contract with that food provider. Make sure you read carefully the contract and prices from the food company before you sign anything.
The next step is to start contacting the carnival vendors. You should seek out catalogs for carnival vendors who have blow up rides or displays like gladiators, giant slides, moon bounce, stretch pull, etc. There are all types of gimmicks, carnival booths and rides out there to get for your college; you just have to do the research. Before undertaking this massive project in putting together this spring festival, make sure that you have a lot of help and you have a big budget at your disposal. You will also need approval from administrators so make sure that they are aware of everything you do and they will also need to sign off on everything first.
Once you have the food and the rides in place, you will need to start contacting student organizations on your campus like fraternities, sororities and student clubs to see if any of them would like to put on a show. Maybe there is a student band that would like to put on a show or a comedy group that would like to do stand up. Any school that has a basketball or football team usually has a pep band for the home crowd and they might like to perform in front of the student body. These student groups will either be free or of very little cost. The major cost for this will be renting and setting up the stage for performing. Finally, you should contact any student organization that would like to have a booth or table at the spring festival. Past ideas I have seen and read about for booths include free giveaways for food like popcorn or ice cream; free t-shirts, posters, etc.
If there is anything else that you would like to do involving your spring festival, make sure you do it ahead of time. The last thing to do is advertise and promote the heck out of your event to the entire student body and surrounding community.
