Organizing your teenagers bedroom may bring about a battle. A battle of wills, styles, and much needed organizational solutions. Prevent unwanted conversations about cleaning up. A well organized bedroom looks less chaotic, even when a few items are out of place. Here are 3 tips to help your teen decorate and organize their bedrooms.

Sort

There may be hundreds of items in the bedroom that are unnecessary. Take time to sort through all clothes, shoes, books, cd's and games. Now is the time to get rid of unused items. Any thing that has not been used for more than a year should be passed down to another sibling or donated. Do not keep unused items. Too many unnecessary items can quickly create clutter.

Organize

Purchase low cost organizers for each area of the room. Organize the desk area. Pencils, pens, markers, and all school supplies need to be organized. Create an area that is encouraging for studying. Have a in and out box for important school papers, writings, or drawings. Small labels of what items go in which space is very helpful. If your budget allows purchase enough drawers, dressers, or closet organizers to store all clothing. Installing shelves in closets is a great alternative to purchasing more furniture for clothing storage. Labeled baskets can be stored on shelves off the floor to hold socks, off season clothes, and accessories. Laundry baskets for dirty clothes, leaves no room for excuses about dirty clothes being on the floor.

Decorate

After the room has been thoroughly cleaned and organized, it is time to add your teen's personality to the room. Paint is an easy quick way to update the atmosphere of the room. Have your teen help you select a new paint color. Stick with a neutral version of the color they select. For example, if your teen likes green, choose a neutral calming green. Avoid bright or brash colors. This is the area where your teen will be studying and relaxing.

The goal of your decorating session is to create a room that your teen is proud of. Having a space for everything makes it easier to keep clean. Not having a defined area for things makes it easier to just leave things on the floor. When you teen does a quick clean, it is easy. There is no uncertainty about where to put things. Use these great tips in your teen's bedroom to save time and unnecessary quarrels about cleanliness.
