How to Organize Twitter Followers and Followings

Dawn Hawkins
Twitter allows you to follow others and for them to follow you. There is no easy way to keep the follows and the following organized unless you do it as you go along. If you are using a Twitter account to promote your business, it might be a good idea to learn how to keep your followers and followings organized. Twitter puts a limit on the number of people you can follow at any given time. As many people as you like may follow you, but you can only follow 2000 people at any given time. This could be a problem for people who wish to add more followings and followers to their list. It depends on the number of people you have following you as opposed to the number of people you follow as to how many Twitter will allow.

How to keep Twitter followers and following organized:

Number of people you are following- Keep the number of people you are following to a minimum. I would suggest starting out with following 100 people. This will make it easy to go back through your follows to see if that person followed you back. If that person didn't follow you back, it is perfectly alright to remove people who don't follow you back. Just remember to give them a few days after following them to follow you back.

How to tell who is following you- One of the easiest ways to tell if someone is following you back is to go to your following list. When that opens, you will be faced with two buttons per person. Click on the right side button next to the person you want to check. When the button scrolls down, you will see a list of options. If there is an option to "Direct Message" that person. If that option isn't showing, that person isn't following you. The only way to direct message someone in Twitter is if that person is following you.

Deleting non-followers- If you see that the person isn't following you, move the mouse pointer down to the "unfollow" button and click. Go through you list until you have checked them all. The reason that this is important is because it will keep the amount of work that you have to do at one time down to a minimum. Keeping it organized in this way will make all the difference in the time you spend at once on Twitter trying to catch up.

Followers- In order to check the followers, go to the "home" button at the top of the page and click. This will take you to the main page. When you look to the right side column, you will see where your followers are. Click on that button and click the follow button of anyone that is following you. This is a common courtesy that you should extend to people who are following you.

Keeping your Twitter followings and followers organized will make it easier to add more people to your followed list which allows more people to see you and follow back. If you are trying to promote business, the goal is to get as many followers as you possibly can. In order to do that, you have to follow as many people as you can. Following too many people at once without having enough followers will stop you from taking the numbers up. Keep your Twitter following and followers organized to get the results you want.
