How To: Get Organized After You Move

Moving Can Be Hassle, but Grab a Label Maker, Some Rubbermade, and Good Attitude!

ORGANIZATION IS KEY

I've just recently moved from a one

bedroom apartment and into a two bedroom

apartment because I needed a little more space.

After I Realized that my one bedroom apartment

was making me disorganized, I came up with a plan.

If I am having this much trouble getting

organized in a space that I've lived in for more

than a year, then I am going to have some major

issues after I get all my clutter into my new apartment.

GET ORGANIZED BEFORE & AFTER THE MOVE

My main issue in my first apartment were single, packed,

or opened mail everywhere! Being a student,

I like to save all my work until the end of the semester,

but I usually end up keeping it.

This was a big problem.

The papers on my desk started cluttering as did

my apartment. The next thing you know I

had paper piles everywhere.

SOLUTION: The first thing I did when I started

to organize my loose papers was to sort.

Go through all of your papers.

What I did was grabbed everything and went into a neat room.

If your surrounded by a messy area you

could get frustrated, so go into a place where you

can calmly sit down and look through what

you need to keep. When I did this I went

out and bought hanging folders and a small

two drawer filing cabinet. As I sorted, I labeled,

and stored. This was easy to move out because

everything was all set and orderly.

TOO MUCH STUFF?

The other problem I had in my apartment was too much

stuff. When I come to think of it, I never thought of myself

as a pack rack, but as I went through my things I caught myself saying,

"I haven't seen this in forever!."

Once you say those five words you might

need to grab a garbage bag. Little nic-nacs aren't

necessary unless you're a collector.

SOLUTION: Ask yourself,

"DO I NEED IT?"

This was pretty hard for me but if I can get through it so can you!

SPACE

After you get everything cleaned up and

you're asking yourself whether you need

it or not, you will start to see more space in the room.

After I cleaned up my house I felt more relaxed.

I was actually watching Tyra Banks the other

day and she said that having a clean house

can improve your relationship.

SOLUTION: I found that keeping things out

of the corners of the apartment made it look

and feel more spacious.

If you have a smaller apartment you need to do this!

After I got everything set and in order I got a

few organizational bins and went to work on my cabinets,

closets, bathroom, pantry, and office. I bought a label maker

to so that I could keep myself in check.

ALWAYS ON THE GO?

Most of us are always on the go.

After you get your apartment in order open

up an excel sheet and make a simple chart

label the columns with the chores that need

to be done in the house on the weekly basis,

and then label the top row with the days of the week.

Put a check mark on a few things every single day

. The most you need to accomplish is five tasks a day.

Do not overwhelm yourself, breathe, and go for it!

I hope these tips have helped you get organized!
