How to Over Come Stage Fright

It Can Be Very Scary to Get Up Infront of an Audience

Like many people in the United States along with people all over the world you may at one time in your life have to speak in front of a crowd or you may even have to perform in front of a crowd. You may have to speak in front of a crowd for a school presentation or at a work conference or you may have to speak to the public in reference to an upcoming event that you are promoting or maybe you are interested in performing and have to perform for the public. What ever you may have to do in public it may be a little tough and scary.

To some people they may say speaking in front of a crowd or performing in front of an audience is no problem at all it's really easy. To other's they may say different. If you are one of these people you may have signs of stage fright before hand such as feeling nervous with butterflies in their stomach, feeling hot, sweaty and heart pounding really hard and fast or maybe you feel as though you have to constantly go urinate or you may feel nauseated causing you to have to run back and forth to the restroom prior to speaking or performing.

There are many ways to over come this stage fright that you may experience prior to your big performance or you're speaking to a crowd of people. Whether you are speaking to a big or small crowd you should first try to picture them in their under wear. It is funny to think about but it works. You can also look at the exit sign right above your audience's heads so that it looks as though you are looking out into the crowd. But while speaking you should try and make some effort to make some sort of eye contact so you will know whether your audience really understands you and understands the point you are trying to get across.

One helpful hint for speaking in public is to make sure you drink plenty of liquids and are hydrated. Some times when you get stage fright you may show signs of what many call dry mouth in which while up talking you get really thirsty because you are so nervous. When you get up to speak or sing if there is a way to possibly take a small cup of water with you. This allows you to take small sips through out your speech if your mouth gets dry. The reason this is so important to help prevent is because you want your presentation to be clear, understandable and you want your audience to hear what you are really saying not what you are trying to say.

If when ever you get up in front of your audience to do a presentation if you begin getting nervous then don't let your audience see that you are nervous. Get up there and act like you own the place if you have to and you have time ask if any body has questions. This allows you to clear up any thing that was left unanswered and it also allows you to loosen up and get to know your audience.

No matter what you do every body gets stage fright at some point in their lives even if it is just presenting their ideas, thoughts, or feelings to a close friend or family member. You have to just be able to get what you want to say out and eventually the longer you talk more comfortable you will become. One don't of speaking to an audience which you may do unknowingly when you get stage fright is to not rush through your speech or performance you want people to understand the point you are trying to get a cross and what you are saying.

There is no real cure for stage fright; some people have stage fright only once in their lives others have stage fright every time they have to speak in front of a crowd. You just have to find the best method for you before going on stage or in front of the public that helps you over come your fright. Even if this means just going and eating at a fast food place down the street from where you are going to talk or listening to the radio on the way to your speech.
