How to Get Over Depression when You Are Lonely

Chrisdavy
Depression has to be the most debilitating mental disease out there now, mostly because people don't take it seriously. You can't call in depressed and take a day off work. You can't tell your teachers you didn't turn in your homework because you were depressed. Yet this mental disease has many, many physical repercussions. I just hope to help a little bit in seeing you over the hump. Here's how to get over depression when you are lonely.
  1. Rely on friends when depressed and lonely.

    You must ask for help.

Depression is not your fault, and I know it's hard to get up and tell someone that you need help. Maybe you feel like you should be able to get over this yourself, or maybe you feel so depressed that you aren't worthy of help.

    It's not true.

Tell your parents or a friend to call you a professional, and rely on them to do so.

  2. 1-800-448-1833.

Some of you may not feel that you can follow step 1, because there is no one you trust enough to help you. I understand. If this is the way you feel, you must have the strength to call a professional yourself.

1-800-448-1833 is the national depression hotline. They call it the suicide hotline, but it's not just for suicides. Call and let someone listen. They're anonymous, and so are you, so it's like talking to a kind stranger who can't tell on you.

  3. Depression and loneliness will not last. I know this firsthand.

If you are depressed because of a breakup or death, realize that it will pass. Someday you will die and people you love will miss you so much that they will feel depressed. Is that really what you would want them to do?

Think about what people you love would say if you were dead, and how you would want them to remember you.

If you can't think of anyone who loves you (that's not true, by the way), think of me. I don't know you, but I know how you feel, and I know that no one should feel that way. Think about the fact that someone wrote this article in hopes you would see it, and that it would somehow give you strength to get out of your depression.

There are good people, and hope in this world. Sometimes you can't see the sun through the fog, but remember that there's a purpose for everything good and bad -- the rain clears the fog.
