1. Realize that the best of the bunch often go unnoticed by colleges due to the lack of space. Many colleges and universities receive more applications for admission than they have the space for. They cannot accept every student that applies to the school. Students with top notch gpa's and outstanding recommendations have been denied to schools that they have applied to. If your recommendations and g.p.a. are stellar then you have done nothing wrong. Space was most likely available on a first come first serve basis meaning, those students whose applications were completed way a head of time with all proper documents received priority. Completed applications have priority of incomplete applications despite the date the applications were sent.
2. Realize that your credentials may have fallen short. If your gpa was slightly below or very below the average gpa that is accepted for that particular school, then the chances of you getting accepted into that school were slim to begin with. You must realize that there were thousands of more students with a much greater gpa. Those students that meet the school's average requirements for gpa and sat scores as well as recommendations and community service hours will have a higher chance of getting accepted. In some instances, colleges will overlook a student's low gpa and sat scores if they fare much better in the area of community service and in their recommendations and essays. This is not always the case. If your credentials were below the average requirements of the school the only thing that you can do is work much harder next time around so that your grades become higher and you can try later on for reentry into the school.
3. Realize that attending this school might not have been your destiny. Sometimes things happen for a reason and you not entering that school may have happened for a good reason. As you get older you might find out how that rejection played into your life for instance, if you did not get rejected from that school you might have missed out on a chance meeting with a C.E.O. of a major company. Timing plays an essential role in life.
4. Realize that there are better opportunities. You might have had your heart set on attending that school but in doing so you may have overlooked other options. If you do not plan on attending any other college at this time, research other colleges to see what they offer. You might have overlooked an intriguing program at one university because you were so fascinated by the popularity of the other university.
5. Realize that your dreams do not have to end with a college rejection letter. There are plenty of other routes one can take to accomplish their dreams. All it takes is decent grades, an excellent essay and recommendations and you can get into an honest college. Sometimes it may take longer to fulfill your goal but as Joseph De Miastre says, "To know how to wait is the great secret of success."
6. Take a look at the website student reviews and review the negative comments about the school you got rejected from. The website studentsreview.com allows users to look up a college of their choice and read the student reviews for that particular college. The reviews are categorized as follows; positive, negative, and neutral. Reading the negative reviews of the college will boost your morale and give you insight into issues about the school that you may not have been aware of.
